On Friday 9th May 2008, after many years of planning and months of hard work, the barn renovation was finally completed and ready for ‘inspection’.
Local MP Helen Jones formally opened the barn, which will be used as a maintenance depot facility by the Town Council.
Helen Jones MP and Chair of the Town Council, Councillor Tony Higgins formally declared the barn ‘open’.
A small event was organised to mark the occasion which was attended by local Councillors, Officers and Staff of the Town Council and representatives of the companies and organisations which had been involved in the planning an implementation of the project. Local residents who had tolerated the noise and dirt that had been unavoidable as part of the renovation work were also invited and the Town Council would like to once again thank them for their patience and understanding over the months that the work took to complete.
We are sure that residents will agree that the final result is a marked improvement on the previously dilapidated building which has been successfully brought back to life as a remarkable, Grade II listed, functional building that is now an asset for the community of Birchwood.
Birchwood has struck lucky on the National Lottery after the Town Council working in partnership with Frontis has been successfully awarded £8,200 to deliver summer holiday activities to local youngsters.
