Abandoned Shopping Trolleys

ASDA has informed Birchwood Town Council that from 24th December 2005 it wishes to end the agreement whereby, in return for a relatively small financial contribution, Birchwood Town Council collect abandoned shopping trolleys from as far afield as Longbarn, and return them to ASDA.

The Town Council had been in negotiation with ASDA with a view to increasing their financial contribution after ASDA were unsuccessful in obtaining permission to install a state of the art Carttronics system.  The amount that ASDA contributes had not changed since 2001, so it was deemed necessary to increase it to a more realistic figure to cover labour and transportation costs.

ASDA will now deal with the issue of abandoned shopping trolleys, and have asked that if residents have any complaints or issues regarding abandoned shopping trolleys from 24th December 2005 onwards they should be directed to their Customer Services Desk.
