Bulky Waste Collections

This is a discretionary service offered by Birchwood Town Council for Birchwood residents.

Due to the closure of the Biffa Waste Site, where we have taken our residents' bulky waste to over previous years, this service has now been reviewed and the Council has resolved to continue with collections for the time being.  Collections will now take place once a week, usually on a Wednesday.

In order to continue with this service for our residents, the Council has hired a roll-on/roll-off type skip to take the bulky waste to.  When collected, the skip will be taken to a facility where the waste is sorted and recyled wherever possible. (Please note we DO NOT have the specialist licence necessary to dispose of any electrical items or items that contain any electrical components - even a small button battery.)

These collections are for large, bulky waste items only (such as tables, settes, beds, etc).  However, because the space for disposal is now limited to the size of the skip, we may have to restrict the number of certain larger items, such as settees, that we can collect in any one week.

We reserve the right to refuse to take any waste that we could reasonably expect to be disposed of by the householder in black, blue or green bins, such as bags of toys, bric-a-brac, green waste, cardboard or other recyclable waste - even if the householders bins are full at the time of the request for collection.

Some items can no longer be collected as part of our bulky waste collection service.  These include: all electrical items, plasterboard, tyres, rubble, sand or any type of building waste, bathroom suites, or waste from kitchen refurbishments. We cannot take any type of green waste, even large branches that will not fit in a green bin.

Town Council red vanIn order to ensure the service is a efficient as possible we ask that waste is presented neatly and is easily accessible.  If possible we ask that items such as mattresses or settees be covered during rainy weather, or kept inside until the day of collection, as they become very heavy once soaked with rain and can be difficult to move and to lift them into the van.

If items have any screws or nails sticking out of them, for safety reasons, please remove them, or flatten them down otherwise the team may not be able to make the collection.
