LOCAL
GROUP KEEPS THE HEAT ON THROUGH THE SUMMER
Members
of the Risley Environmental Group (REPG) are looking forward
to a fruitful summer. In addition to their recent links
with RIMAG (Risley Moss Action Group), they continue to
represent the local community at Site Liaison Meetings at
the Biffa Risley landfill site and attend meetings of the
Warrington Nature Conservation Forum held at Risley Moss.
Recent REPG meetings, which have been attended by representatives
of the Town Council and the local police, have included
discussion on matters of mutual interest and concern, such
as means of traffic calming and reduction of litter, and
possible ways to alleviate problems have been formulated.
Following
our walk last summer around Pestfurlong Hill (now designated
as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation Site [SINC])
led by Phil Rees of RIMAG; we have arranged another walk
to see this area at a different time of the year. This site
is one of the first SINC sites in Warrington and contains
much wildlife of interest for everyone - and is just on
our doorstep! The walk will take place at 9.00am on Sunday
13 May, meeting at the car park opposite the entrance to
Falstone Close. All are welcome.
Later
in the summer the REPG will be running a stall at the Risley
Moss Safari Day, as in recent years, with attractions including
the 'Frog Dip@, 'Catch-a-Critter@ and others. If you feel
you would like to help on the day then please contact us
- and new ideas are always welcome.
Our
committee meetings are held on Thursdays at 7.30pm in The
Poacher.
If
you would like to know more about the Group or would like
to come along to our next meeting then please contact the
Acting Chairman (Dieter Blanck on 01925-827163) or the Secretary
(Jill Hewett on 01925-814744) or see us at our stall on
Safari Day.
